Product Description
Katniss is a 16-year-old girl living with her mother and younger sister in the poorest district of Panem, the remains of what used be the United States. Long ago the districts waged war on the Capitol and were defeated. As part of the surrender terms, each district agreed to send one boy and one girl to appear in an annual televised event called, "The Hunger Games." The terrain, rules, and level of audience participation may change but one thing is constant: kill or be killed. When Kat's sister is chosen by lottery, Kat steps up to go in her place.

5 out of 5 stars Addicting   July 29, 2010

I just could not put this book down. I carried my kindle literally everywhere! It brings every type of emotion you can think of throughout the book.

4 out of 5 stars Great Book, Hated the Ending   July 29, 2010
Kyle
Once I got past the book being told in present tense and that all the dialogue is followed by 'says' (it read awkwardly for the longest), the story pulled me in. I felt the characters' pain, winced at the dystopian world, and never wanted the story to stop.

Then, I got to the end and begged it to stop. Once the game is over, the story should have ended. The rest of the book is boring. Yes, there were lots of loose ends to tie up, but I was done by then. Done enough that I've haven't been interested in reading either of the sequels, so I can't comment on them.

No matter if you're a Young Adult or an old adult, you'll probably enjoy this book.

5 out of 5 stars SUCH A Great Book!...   July 28, 2010
Mercedes L. Johnmeyer (Kingsland, GA)
This is so far from my normal type of reading (which is mainly historical fiction and southern fiction), but even *I* loved this. It was recommend to me by a friend who's been telling me for about 3 or 4 months now, that I need to read this. I kept putting if off, convinced I was gonna hate it, but she said since I read and enjoyed Ayn Rands 'Anthem', and Lowis Lowry's 'The Giver' is one of my all time favorite books, this is something I'd probably like. She was absolutely right.

It was so hard to have to put this book down, and in some cases, I simply couldn't. I read WAY past my bedtime two nights in a row. I average 1 book a week...I finished this in 2 1/2 days...and I have a 2 year old to take care of! I won't summarize this book since it's been done here already about a gazillion times, so all I can do is add my recommendation to the other 1,000+ that are already here. Seriously, this is an excellent book, and you'll fly right through it. I immediately started 'Catching Fire' upon completion of this book, and I know I'm gonna be pulling my hair out waiting for 'Mockingjay'. This really is an amazingly good series.

5 out of 5 stars great summer read   July 28, 2010
Jennifer K. Mcelheney (Toledo, OH)
This book was recommend to be by a friend. Although the target audience is young adult I'm 39 and found the book very entertaining. Its very intense and a page turner, after reading the first installment I couldn't wait to get the the second book.

This one grabs you and won't let you go. A very quick read that can be enjoyed by a diverse range of ages.
