Product Description Katniss is a 16-year-old girl living with her mother and younger sister in the poorest district of Panem, the remains of what used be the United States. Long ago the districts waged war on the Capitol and were defeated. As part of the surrender terms, each district agreed to send one boy and one girl to appear in an annual televised event called, "The Hunger Games." The terrain, rules, and level of audience participation may change but one thing is constant: kill or be killed. When Kat's sister is chosen by lottery, Kat steps up to go in her place.

I Did Not Like It March 9, 2010 i read this book after everyone started telling me about it. i really did not enjoy this book thta much but it may be your style.
Couldn't put it down March 9, 2010 Astrid (Frankfurt, Germany) All right, that book is written for teenagers but don't let that keep you from reading it. I was barely able to put it down once I started. Katnis is a wonderful heroine, able to face whatever is thrown her way once the 'Hunger Games' start. Besides having to face a lot of adventures, she struggles an internal fight of how to win without having to kill one of the other teenagers forced into the game. Truth is, she can't. But that is all I'm going to say. Suzanne Collins wrote a remarkable book and I'm really looking forward to reading the sequel.
A thoroughly exciting, scary, and satisfying read. March 8, 2010 melmoiselle (Atlanta, GA) I finished this book in 2.5 days (I'll add the half on because I read the last chapter on the third day). It was an amazing read, very fast-paced from the moment it started, all the way up until a cringe-worthy conclusion. Love or hate Katniss, she is a real character who serves as a good narrator, in part because she is so emotionally detached and dispassionate. It is no surprise to learn she is unable to process any potential romantic feelings she has towards the two lead males, given the environment she was raised in and rebels against in increasingly direct ways. Despite her desire for change, there is still the sense of home that leads to conflict as much as the romantic tension does.
Although this book is intended for a teen audience, I am well past those years and still enjoyed it immensely. It is a book that can be enjoyed by all ages as it can be read on many levels. At the surface, it is an alternately scary and exciting adventure. However, underneath lies a commentary on the future of our society and political ramifications. I'm sort of glad I discovered this book late as the second book was already published and I flew through that as well. Now I'm anxiously awaiting book 3 in August.
Review from The Neverending Shelf March 7, 2010 The Neverending Shelf (TN, USA) Review in 75 words or less: At the end of this novel, I had to ask myself "Why had I not read this sooner?" Short answer: I believed that it could not live up to the hype. However, it did. The novel is filled with excitement, action, emotions, and so much more. I honestly believe that there is a little something for everyone in this novel. This novel is dystopian at its best, and is a definite must read.
Final Verdict: I was very pleased with this novel. It is definitely the best dystopian that I have had the pleasure to read in a very long time. If you have not read this novel yet, be sure to add it to your TBR pile. It is that good.
Amazingly Intense... March 6, 2010 Bonnie E. Floyd My first thought about this book is WOW! The Hunger Games pushed me to the edge of my seat then knocked me off. I can not tell you how good it is. I enjoyed this book so much I was obessed with finishing it and reading the next book. I became so involved with the characters, I had to tell myself to step back and take a breath.
The Hunger Games is set in the ruins of North America, in the country of Panem. There are 12 districts and two teenagers from each district, a boy and a girl, are sent to the capital each year to compete in the Hunger Games. In the games everyone must fight to the death, only the winner survives. Join Katniss, Peeta and the others in the Hunger Games and see who survives and who does not. Will the Hunger Games bring Katniss and Peeta together or tear them apart?
