Product Description
Whether at an official tournament or a home kitchen table, every SCRABBLE player wants to be a winner—and these specially selected words and expert hints are guaranteed to boost scores. Based on the Official Scrabble Players Dictionary, Fourth Edition (currently one of the bestselling games and puzzles books) and with foreword by World SCRABBLE Champion Brian Cappelletto, this is the equivalent of an intensive training course. Complete with winning word lists, such as those that combine high-scoring letters, those that have a preponderance of vowels, and those that allow multiple I and U dumps, it also offers tips on hitting triple-triples and achieving those elusive 7-letter bingos. SCRABBLE, the distinctive game board and letter tiles, and all associated logos are trademarks of Hasbro in the United States and Canada and are used with permission. © 2007 Hasbro. Great Book June 20, 2010 Randy Given (Manchester, CT USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
How can someone not like this book? I skimmed through the reviews before I bought it. I was concerned with some of the negative reviews, but I thought we were looking for different things. That's probably true.
This book is great for a SCRABBLE resource. Just the "Cheat Sheet" alone is worth the price of the book. Not to mention all the hooks and stems. Printed in an easy-to-find fashion.
The only thing I'm worrying about is how it holds up to constant use. Then again, it's such a cheap purchase, I'm not really worried about it.
Just a list of words February 8, 2010 iamdavinci 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I guess this could be beneficial if you want to study it. But all it is is a list of words so the cons and pros are:
CONS:
Just a list of words of varying length
Very fine print - you'll need your glasses or magnifying glass depending on your sight variance and if you have a problem with reading small print.
Some words are in non-alphabetic lists
PROS:
Just a list of words of varying length
Good 2 and 3 and 4 and 5 letter lists to study
Some strategic word lists (such as the High Fives - words that cannot have an "s" ending and Vowel Heavy words)
Mnemonics - if you have the gumption to study these words it offers mnemonic exercises
This book is for the Scrabble player and I mean not for the casual once a year Scrabble player but one who likes to play in a competitive or a non-competitive format but more frequently than once a week/month/year. For me it is a book that I will use to beat my brother in law; the self gloating Scrabble champ (at least he thinks he is in his own delusional part of this world).
I bought it as a package with The Official Scrabble Players Dictionary (definitely good book to have) and the Super Scrabble Deluxe Edition because I wanted more tiles to play with and what is good about this game is you score more. YIKES!
Hope this helps anyone who has an interest in the wonderful world of Scrabble and the words that mankind has made up.
Best update they could have done January 27, 2010 William Wine (So. Cal., USA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is the greatest way to play Scrabble. The old version seemed to end just as you started but now, it just keeps going. The additional combinations add to the challange of the game.
Too Much January 23, 2010 James Farberoff Isaza (Israel) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
This one is for really really Hardcore Scrabble players. The first 3 or 4 lists is the maximun that normal players like me would need.....its like ordering a dictionary with the words arranged by lenght and not by alphabetic order....and for me, the lack of definitions make it a very arid book....
A Hardcore Scrabbler on the other hand has here a very nice way to memorize a whole dictionary...
A disappointment November 15, 2009 Christine M. Sancken 1 out of 6 found this review helpful
This product was not what I thought. We didn't find it helpful - didn't like the way it was organized - just lots of list of words.
