Product Description
Wild barbarians, lured by Catan's wealth and power, maneuver to attack. Their massive warships loom against the orange horizon. You must be strong! Barbarians attack the weakest targets, and the victim of their onslaught will be the player who contributes the least to the defense of Catan. Don't take any chances! Field your knights!

In The Cities & Knights of Catan, you engage in the defense of Catan and compete to build the three great metropolises of Catan. Each of these magnificent centers are even more valuable than cities and are safe from the barbarians. You must invest in city improvements, which you acquire using commodities of trade: Coin, Paper, and Cloth. If you improve your culture, muster your knights, and enrich your cities, you will be the master of the great realm of Catan. This edition features all new artwork, and an insert tray to hold game components for up to 6 players.

5 out of 5 stars Fun game   September 3, 2010
M. Drumm (Kirkland, WA United States)
We bought this expansion pack to the popular Settlers of Catan game for a friend of ours. If you like Settlers, this is a fun variation of the game. There are quite a few new aspects to this version and it took awhile to get through the new instructions the first time, but it was worth it. The increased complexity adds interest to the game. I highly recommend it. You do need to have the original settlers game first, in order to use the expansion.

5 out of 5 stars Huge difference, but good expansion to Catan   August 29, 2010
S. Kanneganti (New Jersey, USA)
I was a huge fan of Catan when I decided to buy Cities and Knights (CnK). When I first got the product, it had all the polish of the first in it's packaging and storing. It still plays on the normal Catan board, just with new pieces and removes Development cards, replacing them with other cards. There are a few more new pieces as well.

After the initial set up, the game was on. The game is a huge divergence. The same basic ideas are there as Catan, but you have 3 more commodities and a bunch of other things to juggle. Most notable are the barbarians, who constantly get closer to Catan to raze it, unless the players' collective Knight strength is strong enough. This adds some game theory cooperative/counteroperative strategy into the game.

Overall, the game is very fun. Having more resources lessens trading a bit sometimes, and people are more likely to fall behind if they get unlucky early. These are the downsides. On the other hand, there are many elements of depth added and the overall game lasts longer (an extra 45 minutes, usually). Furthermore, once the game reaches mid to late game, it gets very exciting.

It's a lot of fun though. My friends and I play regular Catan from time to time as well, but this is the game we go to for a long, in depth session.

5 out of 5 stars Settlers of Catan Cities and Knights expansion   August 25, 2010

This game is so much fun and frustration, what I like about it is, with every roll most of the players receive something. Usually when we reach the number of points to win, we keep playing to the most points because a player can do so much more and you don't want to stop playing.

5 out of 5 stars Good game   August 23, 2010

We love this game. We borrowed it from a friend to try it out. Our whole family loves it. Even our 7 year old has learned to play. It adds a little challenge and change to the game.

4 out of 5 stars Fun, but tough on newbies   July 12, 2010
Lincoln V. Webbeking (Seattle, WA)
I love Catan, and enjoy playing the expansion with other fans. However, the expansion gets a bit confusing with new players, so I often still play the regular Catan instead. This is a good game if you're playing with other experienced players.
