5 out of 5 stars A great game!   August 3, 2010

Played this game first with a friend before purchasing the Big Box, which includes multiple expansions. It is a great game, and the product was delivered quickly and in excellent condition. Excellent purchase!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent game for all types of boardgamers   July 14, 2010

I would recommend this game to anybody who is looking for a fun new boardgame. The gameplay is relatively quick (under an hour once you get the hang of it, and usually closer to 30 - 45 minutes). The original rules are fairly simple, but provide for different viable strategies. For those looking for something more complex, the expansions included with the game provide plenty of opportunity for that. The game is also different every time, as you create your own unique "map" of Carcassonne every time you play.

It's a fantastic multi-player game (three - six players; four is probably optimal), but I'd also really recommend Carcassonne for anyone looking for a good two-player game. A lot of similar board games either don't have two-player rules at all, or if they do, they are so different from the standard rules as to render the two-player version almost an entirely different game. The two-player rules for this game are exactly the same as the standard rules, and other than using slightly different strategies, make for a game just as enjoyable as if you were playing with three to six players.

I noticed several reviews have commented on the wasted box space. The box IS unnecessarily large - we just took out the plastic insert (meant to provide separate compartments for each different expansion) and put all the different expansion tiles in their own labeled Ziploc bag. We opted to keep the box because it looks nice, but if you wanted, you could easily fit the plastic bags inside a cardboard box half that big.

Don't hesitate to get this game! You'll have a lot of fun.

5 out of 5 stars Carcassonne Big Box   June 22, 2010

Carcassonne is the best game ever! It will take us a long time to learn all the extensions but we will never be bored. We have bought this game for two of our relatives and they like it too. The only problem with this game is that two pieces are missing and I need to contact the company to get them. grrr Thank goodness the big box has slots for all components!

5 out of 5 stars Great game for all ages - never gets boring!   May 24, 2010

Carcassonne is a great game - my husband and I play every weekend and we never get tired of it. Because it's a tile-placing game, the game board looks different every time and so the game feels very different each time we play. We've been playing consistently for over 2 years and I would say that only now have we essentially mastered most of the strategy involved in the game. It's thoroughly entertaining.

5 out of 5 stars It's a big deal   April 3, 2010

If you like Carcassonne, this is the box for you.

I'm assuming you already know about Carcassonne. Why else would you be purchasing an $80 game that includes 8 expansion sets? It is a great game, works well with 2 players and works well with more players. You can play a game in just an hour (more depending on how many expansion sets you use).

Here are the reasons you should be getting the Big Box as opposed to all the expansion sets separately

PROS
* Cost. ~$80 for the Big Box, ~$110 for everything a la carte.
* It has most of the expansion sets (River II instead of the original River; no Tower or Catapult).
* All the pieces are subtly marked indicating which expansion it belongs to
* Summary rule book. Very nice to have everything in one place.

NEUTRAL
* Rio Grande now uses the new/european rules where two-piece cities score 4 instead of 2 and the farms are scored differently at the end. These rules are supposed to be a bit more balanced and easier to understand.

CONS
* This box is way too big. Most of it is wasted space. However, each expansion set has it's own cubbyhole so it is easy to mix and match and separate the various expansion tiles.
* It is missing the nice cloth bag from the Traders & Builder expansion set.
