4 out of 5 stars My daughter loved it.   January 1, 2009
I agree with most of the points in the negative reviews of this product. It's too expensive and the stuffed animal is very cheaply made. The games are simple and it can be problematic that you can't choose the exact animal you receive.

However, I explained all the negatives to my four year old daughter, and she still very much wanted one. We bought it, and she absolutely loved it! She thought the games were fun, and she played them practically non-stop for the first day. She liked the activities that involved caring for the creature, and she was also delighted with the toy at the end. She thought it was very cute and has carried it with her everywhere.

3 out of 5 stars Fun, but not worth the full price.   December 29, 2008
I purchased four of these as Christmas gifts for nieces as well as my daughter (ages 5, 6, 8 and 8). They were all very excited about it and were able to figure it out without much adult instruction. (None of them have had any sort of virtual pet before this) It kept them entertained for a couple of hours Christmas night and a couple hours the next morning, but they all had them open and the Meeba out by noon the 26th. Luckily I got these when they were BOGO for [...] on Amazon, because the four hours of play time would not be worth the regular [...] price. All kids enjoyed it, so that made it worth the reduced price that I had paid, but now the container and "virtual pet" part is worthless. FYI...batteries needed to be replaced in one before play could begin, but otherwise we had no technical problems with all four of them.

Luckily another reviewer on here mentioned that you still have to KEEP playing after the Meeba gets to be the largest size, otherwise we wouldn't have known to keep playing. Once you earn three final hearts AFTER he is the largest size, then you will have the option to open the container.

All in all, it was a hit with the kids, but I definitely wouldn't pay full price for one of these toys...I would imagine that the B&M stores will be clearancing them soon.

2 out of 5 stars A bit frustrating   December 26, 2008
Not really cute!!! I asked for this for Christmas and I got it. It's boring because I've only discovered 4 games!!! I don't like it that much. It doesn't grow that fast and some other kids say it only takes them about 3 hours, and I figure that it will take me 3 months to get to level 3!!!The instructions say there are 20 games, (SO FAR, NOT!!!)

1 out of 5 stars CRACKED IT OPEN WITH A HAMMER   December 17, 2008
Wow! My kids talked about these for months! I went to the hospital for a few days and thought I would buy them. $60.00 dollars later -- they played with them for 2 days and my older child who is 9 said that hers was broken. It was -- for no reason. My husband had to crack it open with a hammer to get the wonderful (not) toy out. My son worked really had to get to the end of his to get his prize only to be disappointed when it wouldn't open. I pried his open with a steak knife! What major disappointments.

3 out of 5 stars Meeba isn't very environmental   December 17, 2008
My 6 year old daughter just had to have a mymeeba and was way into in for the first couple of days and then struggled with getting the meeba to grow. She then put it down and went on to other things and I keep urging her to finish. She plays with it for short spurts but gets frustrated, we've had it for 2 months. I think its a clever toy and I do realize that its rated for 7 and above so she may be a little young. I think the thing that discourages me the most is that the container contains materials (mercury?) that are harmful to the environment and therefore have to be turned into a recycling center that can handle them. They are not to be thrown in the garbage, but the print on this is so small on the box I imagine that most people are just throwing them in the garbage can and they are polluting the environment. I guess most electronic games are kept for a long time and this is a kind of "disposable" one. Something to think about when we purchase these items..
